SHELL V-POWER RACING TEAM MUSTANGS REVEALED
February 6, 2025
The Shell V-Power Racing Team has taken the covers off its 2025 challengers.
Sporting a fresh, new look, the livery is an evolution of the iconic Shell V-Power Racing Team colours that have witnessed many years of continued success in the Repco Supercars Championship.
This year, the team has transformed their Shell V-Power Mustangs with a livery featuring a primarily white base, with the iconic red and yellow Shell colours also predominantly and proudly on display.
Kostecki’s race number was also revealed today at the team’s launch in Queensland, with the 2023 Champion to make his debut for the team at Sydney Motorsport Park with number 38 on his car. Davison, meanwhile, will continue to run the iconic number 17 that has been synonymous with Dick Johnson Racing for decades.
The number 38 has a strong connection to Dick Johnson himself, with the Australian Motorsport Hall of Famer having used the number in his first ever race meeting in 1964 at Lakeside in Queensland. The number 38 also graced the sides of the NASCARs Johnson competed in through the early 1990s.
Kostecki has also previously raced under the number 38 when he competed in the Dunlop Super2 Series, providing a strong connection between Kostecki and Johnson and the new number.
In further news announced on Thursday, Shell V-Power Racing Team Principal Dr Ryan Story AM confirmed an expanded agreement with its existing long-term partner, Ford.
“Today, as we commence the campaign for our record 45th season in the Repco Supercars Championship, we are delighted to announce that we will continue our journey with the Blue Oval long into the future,” Dr Story said.
“We are finalising the minor details on the longest sponsorship agreement DJR has ever negotiated with Ford Performance.”
The two new Shell V-Power Mustangs will debut their stunning new liveries on-track for the team’s upcoming shakedown event at Queensland Raceway on 13 February, before the pre-season test day at Sydney Motorsport Park on 19 February.
QUOTE BOARD:
Brodie Kostecki, Driver Car 38:
“This year’s livery looks unbelievable,” Kostecki said.
“I’m also super excited to be racing with the number 38 this year. I know it has special meaning to ‘DJ’ but it’s also the number I ran during my time in the Dunlop Series so it still has a special place in my racing history as well.”
“With the car now revealed publicly, it’s time for me and the team to get to work, starting with my first drive of the Shell V-Power Mustang at our shakedown on 13 February at Queensland Raceway.”
Will Davison, Driver Car 17:
“When I first saw the number 17 Shell V-Power Mustang, I knew we had another iconic livery on our hands,” Davison said.
“We’ve got some exciting changes onboard and the team has worked tirelessly building brand new cars.
“I cannot wait to get on track and understand the differences and improvements.”
Dick Johnson AM:
“This year’s livery is an impressive new look for the team as we embark on what will be a hugely exciting 2025 season,” Johnson said.
“It’s also great to have Brodie racing with number 38, it’s a number that is close to my heart as the number I raced under for the very first time back in 1964.
“I know everybody at Shell V-Power Racing Team is excited about what 2025 has in store for us.”
Dr Ryan Story AM, Team Principal Shell V-Power Racing Team:
“We’re thrilled to reveal the new-look, mighty Shell V-Power Mustangs for 2025,” Dr Story said.
“This year promises to be something special. We have worked hard over this off-season investing in our people, our cars and our fans. This new livery design highlights our evolution as a team and marks the start of a new and exciting era.
“We’re also proud to see Brodie racing with the number 38 in 2025. It has significance for ‘DJ’ and Brodie who both competed with the number 38 in their respective early careers, so it made perfect sense to pick that number for this year’s Championship, alongside the famous number 17.”
