It was an impressive Saturday for the Shell V-Power Racing Team at the Taupō Super440, with a pole position and double podium capping off a strong day.
Qualifying for Race 9 saw Brodie Kostecki claim pole, with teammate Will Davison also impressing with a fourth place start.
When it came to the race, it was a back-and-forth battle with Davison and Kostecki enjoying some tough racing across the 38 lap encounter.
Ultimately, Davison would work his way through the field to finish second, while Kostecki rounded out the podium in third - battling a car that had been through the wars in an earlier fight for the lead with Chaz Mostert.
Earlier in the day, the first of three races for the weekend weren’t quite as strong for them, Davison finishing 10th and Kostecki 12th after a safety car period impacted their pit strategy and ultimate track position.
What the drivers said:
Brodie Kostecki (Race 8: P12, Race 9: P3):
“It's just been a bit of a mixed weekend - I had a bit of a shocker on the first race and I was honestly quite surprised at the pace late in the first stint in the last race there,” Kostecki said.
"(I was carrying some damage which was a) bit unfortunate, it was a bit of front to rear contact and then blew my right-rear out.
“She’s missing a few spokes and I’m actually surprised I hung on that far.”
Will Davison (Race 8: P10, Race 9: P2):
“We did have a good weekend here (at Taupō) last year but it doesn't mean anything. I know it looks like a coincidence, but I think the performance sporadically the last few events considering it’s a massively new group even two new mechanics on my car this weekend is really positive,” Davison said.
“Today's been a really positive day for us and this is the first podium for Brodie in these colours and I’m thrilled to share it with him.
“It’s just really, really cool to be a part of the group at the moment. There’s fresh energy and some big drive by Brodie, who is such an amazing teammate.
“So every weekend we keep learning and keep trying to extract every little bit out of myself.”
