DAY 1 RECAP
Blue skies & sunshine beamed across Newcastle for Day 1 of the Newcastle 500. With three practice sessions set for the day, the Shell V-Power Racing Team hit the track.
In Practice 1 both cars logged over 20 laps, each relatively issue fee, which gave a somewhat sense of relief to the team; especially being able to get through the first session in the new cars on such a demanding street circuit. From then on, knowing the cars were good, it was time to press on with making them fast. Throughout the rest of the day, both cars No.11 & No.17, logged plenty of laps, with each car again running relatively drama free. The team made many positive changes throughout Practice 2 & Practice 3 and both cars sat pretty consistently across the top ten throughout all three practice sessions.
Although there's plenty of work to still be done as the team heads into Day 2 of the Newcastle 500, there's also plenty of potential.
DE PASQUALE QUOTE
“It’s great to be back into racing, obviously we had a bit of an off-season plus we’ve got the new cars and heaps of new stuff going on. So, to get back to the track and for the car to run as it did on the first day is a big tick. Everyone’s happy about that. We’re trying heaps of different things. We don’t really know exactly how to make these things faster, not just yet, so we’re trying different things & we’re learning. So, it’s exciting!”
W. DAVISON QUOTE
“It was a good day, we’ve obviously been counting down for months for today so it was a pretty special day! A lot of track time, we learned a lot and we tried a lot. It’s a pretty violent track so it was really good to start understanding this package. I really enjoyed the day! Some changes were great, some were not so great. Our pace seems to be there or thereabouts – it’s incredibly close. The team did a great job! I think we’re going to need to be a little bit quicker tomorrow but we seem like we’re there or thereabouts, so I’m excited for tomorrow!”
