DAY 2 RECAP
Day two of the Repco Bathurst 1000 saw the wet weather hold off for Practice 3, with both main drivers and co-drivers getting time in the car for another dry session. Both Car No. 17 and No. 100 ran heavy fuel loads to simulate race runs early in the session before completing the session with simulated qualifying runs ahead of this afternoon’s session.
Another key focus for Practice 3 for the team was driver changes and pit stops ahead of Sunday’s Great Race. At the conclusion of P3, W. Davison and A. Davison finished the session in P1 and De Pasquale and D’Alberto finished the session in P8.
The expected wet weather rolled in shortly after Practice 3 and Practice 4 proved to be particularly challenging to get the balance right with the increasingly greasy track conditions. Both Car No. 17 and No. 100 used the session to give the main drivers and co-drivers laps in wet conditions.
At the conclusion of a red flag-plagued session, W. Davison and A. Davison finished in P9 and De Pasquale and D’Alberto finished in P6.
The wet weather remained the key talking point ahead of Qualifying, while the rain had stopped, the track conditions proved to be very tricky. The track began to dry out approximately halfway through the session and it was a lottery for everyone to be on the right tyre pressure to maximise their flying laps.
At the conclusion of Qualifying, Will Davison progressed through to the Top 10 Shootout after finishing the session in P6 and Anton De Pasquale just missed out and will start the Great Race from P11 on Sunday.
DE PASQUALE QUOTE
“It was mixed conditions today, it started off dry, then we had a bit of rain and then a drying Qualifying session. We were able to get a bit of a read on the car in multiple conditions. We’ll use the information we have gained today to move forward.”
D'ALBERTO QUOTE
“We did some dry running this morning and I felt more comfortable in the car. I think we have found a little bit of direction with the car, which is nice. I was also able to get a few laps in the wet. It wasn’t a lot of running, but it gave me a bit of an idea of what to expect.
“I’ll get a few more laps tomorrow, in potentially wet conditions, I would say. Then we obviously go into the race on Sunday.”
W. DAVISON QUOTE
“It was a very tricky day, but we’re through to the shootout. We were super quick in the dry conditions this morning, which was great. It’s really encouraging. In the heavy rain we have been really quick all day.
“Qualifying was one of those sessions where it got drier and drier, and you really needed to be on the right tyre pressure at the right time. So, it was one of those tricky sessions, it was a bit of a lottery. We probably didn’t get the time in when the track was at its best, but we are through and I’m really looking forward to tomorrow.”
A. DAVISON QUOTE
“It’s great to have Car No. 17 through to the shootout tomorrow, Will’s been on fire all weekend. It was very tough conditions today, especially in that Qualifying session just as the conditions changed at different stages as you never knew what the weather was going to do.
“The practice sessions were solid; I didn’t do a lot of running today. But I did a handful of laps in the rain, which was interesting, not great fun but important just to have a look around and get a feel for it and we’ll do a bit more tomorrow, I guess.
“We’re tracking along okay in all conditions, and we’ve been on the pace.”
