Anton De Pasquale claims his first victory for 2022, while milestone man Will Davison finished in P2.

Anton De Pasquale and Will Davison locked out the front row of the grid for Race 16, with De Pasquale starting from P2 and Davison starting his milestone 500th race from P1. The Darwin conditions were hot and sticky for Race 16, with an air temperature of 33 degrees at the start of the race. Both drivers started the race on a used set of Dunlop Super Soft tyres.

De Pasquale and Davison both had a good start and retained their positions into turn 1. De Pasquale and Davison went side by side into turn 5 before getting sucked into each other and touching. De Pasquale passed Davison for P1 at turn 5.

After 9 laps De Pasquale held a lead of 1.7-seconds over Davison and this lead remained consistent throughout the entire race.

From the lead pack, Mostert was the first to stop on lap 17 and Heimgartner followed on lap 18.

Davison came in for his compulsory pit stop on lap 19 for two rear tyres only. Davison rejoined the race ahead of both Mostert and Heimgartner.

De Pasquale came in for his compulsory pit stop on lap 20 and had two rear tyres changed. De Pasquale rejoined ahead of Davison for the effective lead.

At the completion of all compulsory pit stops, De Pasquale sat in P1 and Davison in P2.

Race 16, Davison’s 500th race start ended as a 1-2 for the Shell V-Power Racing Team. De Pasquale remained P1 for the rest of the race and Davison in P2.

“It’s good to get a 1-2 in qualifying and convert that in the race, so super happy and everyone at the team is stoked. We will try to keep up the pointy end tomorrow.

“Will pulled out an awesome shootout lap for his 500th race and it was awesome just to be up here, both of us up here.

“Will and I were side by side at Turn 5 and sort of got sucked into each other a bit, we had a tangle, tangle but we both came out the other side, so hopefully it’s all good racing and come off as a good race on TV from that point of view.”

“It’s been a great day, stoked for the team really, after a difficult Winton it was a really important bounce back.

“A great shootout was a lot of fun this morning and ultimately the result for the team is far bigger than me being a bit disappointed for finishing second. It was a great move by Anton at the start it was good fun. It was really important from Winton, we have all worked really hard over the last few weeks to achieve a result like this, this is all about the team tonight.

“I’m so to be part of the team and to get results like this is huge and to see our comradery between both our crews and all the group, it’s a win for everyone. Of course you want to win, that’s what we want to do, but it came down to the start and Anton pulled off a great move, what can I say.”
